Understanding color & difference between additive (RGB) and subtractive (CMY)
Create with Color
- Use Creative Commons Search to find a colorful image that you can pick one element of to remain colorful.
- remember to record name of site where you found image, so you can give credit
- image should have a resolution of at least 1024x768
- Save image to your computer
- Open with GIMP
- If image is larger than 1024x768, you should Scale Image down to around that size.
- Use the Free Select Tool (looks like a lasso), so highlight around the object you want to remain in color.
- Select Edit -> Copy.
- Select Edit -> Paste As New Layer.
- Go to Layers dialog and make sure original image layer is selected
- Select Colors -> Desaturate.
- Experiment with look of greyscale.
- Go to Layers dialog and make sure colorful object is selected.
- Move into place.
- You can also experiment with color of this object with Colors -> Hue-Saturation.
- Export As .PNG file and upload to your blog.

- Experiment with the options under Colors. Try them all out and then pick one or two you like best with your image.
- Export As .PNG file and upload to your blog.
Create a Color Wheel
A color wheel has complimentary colors directly across from each other. What colors will you put on your wheel? What tool can you use to create an interesting wheel?
Reflect:
Be sure to share both your color splash image plus your color experiment image. Also be sure to cite the website where you originally got the image. Write a reflection about the most important thing you learned about color during these 2 days experimenting with it and why.
