3D design

Day 14

Watch & Discuss:

Will 3D Printing Change the World?

Create a 3D Object

Design an object with Inkscape. To make this 2D object 3D, you will take from Inkscape and import into Tinkercad. In Tinkercad, you can add depth to the object. You can create multiple objects in Inkscape and add them together in Tinkercad. Consider how the pieces will fit togther. If there are holes, how will the 3D printer handle that.

When you are finished in Inkscape, save file(s) as .SVG. Also save as .PNG, so you can upload to your blog. Import into Tinkercad (you will need to create an account, use school e-mail address)

Examples:

When you have completed your 3D creation:

  • Select Design -> Download for 3D Printing
  • Download as .STL
  • E-mail .STL file to kwilkens@stab.org along with color preference (grey, red, green, purple)

Reflect:

Take a screen shot of your 3D creation in Tinkercard. Explain why & how you think 3D printing will change the world.
